It’s hard to give a definitive answer as the ZetiRover always needs some feint LTE (4G) signal to work (unless it’s near a ZetiCell), but it will provide internet access in lots of places where your phone has no chance! Because coverage is different everywhere, the only way to know for sure how it will perform on your farm is through first-hand experience. For this reason, we offer a ‘satisfaction guarantee’ with all purchases so you can essentially trial it risk free. If it doesn’t give you the connectivity edge you were looking for you, can return it within the first 60 days for a full refund. We’re confident you’ll be impressed but in a country as big as Australia, there will always be locations that are even too remote for the ZetiRover!
If you’re near a ZetiCell it will be nearly as fast as the home internet connection. If it’s using LTE (4G) coverage it’s hard to predict as speeds vary depending on your location, network congestion, local weather conditions, hardware, other internet traffic, etc, but we’re confident you’ll find that the data speeds are much better than other network extension options. That being said, our focus has always been to design a product that provides more range and reliability rather than necessarily a a high-speed internet device. In fringe coverage areas, we consider speeds of 2Mbps to 10Mbps download to be pretty good as you’ll be able to do almost anything you need to, such as make phone calls, send emails, browse webpages, etc.
It scans its location and chooses which connection to use based on coverage availability and a pre-determined hierarchy of connections. In doing so, it overlays three potential networks, giving you the best possible chance of staying connected! The three connections are:
- Wi-Fi ‘backhaul’ connection to ZetiCell (with approx 3km if available)
- Primary LTE (4G) connection
- Backup LTE (4G) connection
No, the ZetiRover will perform well on its own but there are some situations where external antennas can be useful. The two main use cases for an external antennas are:
- External Wi-Fi antenna – provides increased range from a ZetiCell to a ZetiRover when these products are used together.
- External backup LTE antenna – provides slightly improved range and throughput for the backup LTE (4G) connection (the ZetiRover on its own has a slight in-built coverage advantage for the primary connection).
No, the ZetiRover is ready to go right out of the box. Just connect the power cord, mount it on top of your vehicle, connect the safety tether, scan your Wi-Fi card. and you’re ready to go!
If you’re not going to be moving your ZetiRover between vehicles, you might be interested in one of the fixed mounting plates that provide a permanent home for the ZetiRover. They make the unit a bit more secure when you’re parked and they also make it easy to permanently connect external antennas if these are required. These mounting bars require some basic tools to attach to your roof rack or tractor cab but it’s an easy job.
